Additions? Subtractions? Willful cutting of losses? Expansion to 1000 definitive LPs? Er-that last option's off the table, actually. If I were to pursue this-probably as a blog piece rather than a book-I'd likely trim it to 300 LPs, and eliminate much (not all) of the repetition among individual artists. I got as far as compiling this partial list of 437 choices, and then abandoned it. I toyed with the idea of expanding and adapting it into a book, which I would have called Rock And Roll All Nite! The 500 Definitive Rock 'n' Soul Albums Of The 1970s. The June 10th, 1994 issue of Goldmine contained a piece I wrote about "The 200 Definitive Albums Of The 1970s." It was well-received, sparked much discussion and dissension, and was a lot of fun to write.
